Update
on the League's dedication to Democratic Learning
At the
recent Spring Meeting we completed the first year of our emphasis
on Democratic Learning. We are very excited about the work that is
going on in League schools and, judging by your spirited presentations
and comments on your evaluation sheets, you are too. If you will recall
we, in our grade level groups, created one sentence definitions of
democratic learning. The staff thought these definitions would be
of help as you work to spread your work with democratic learning to
your fellow teachers, students, and community members. At the meeting
we, more or less, reached consensus on the following three definitions.
We’ve included a fourth because it seemed to capture the key
elements of democratic learning in an easy to remember format. Feel
free to pick one of the following definitions or create your own.
Hopefully, a year from now a majority of the people in your school
community will share a common definition of democratic learning.
