Deepening
the work of the League
The mission
of the League, "To promote the school as a democratic learning
community that is student-centered and focused on improving teaching
and learning for all," has guided our work for the past 14 years.
The League is considered a leader in the movement to empower teachers
and local administrators to exert their professional responsibilities
in school renewal efforts. Member schools have made great inroads
in improving the quality of student learning by democratically creating
(1) covenants of teaching and learning and then bringing these covenants
to life using (2) shared governance and (3) action research. We want
to continue and deepen this work by applying democratic principles
to classrooms - what we call democratic learning.
